Notes from the CEO
Why I'm a Part of Bringing the 2022 Winter Games to our Region
As you may know I am a member of the California Winter Games Committee. I thought I’d use this blog post to expand on why this is important to me.
As the President and CEO of a local business, it’s a given that I believe the region will benefit economically from hosting the 2022 Olympic Games at Lake Tahoe.
But there is more to my supporting this effort than money. Simply put, it’s the Olympics! Sharing the experience of watching that level of competition live with my family is something I want.
I’m a sports guy, it’s true. Mine is a sports family really. My wife and children are all involved in sports, competitive and non-competitive. I’ve coached many of my kid’s teams over the years. We play sports together and watch sports together.
I also believe that athletics is more than just entertainment. Sports has taught my children how to win and, perhaps more importantly, how to lose and how to persevere. That kind of experiential learning is vital for young people in this world. Through the lens of the Olympic Games, our children can learn so much about what is good about competition, about working toward and reaching goals, and be inspired by role models who aren’t in it to sell shoes.
Hosting the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in our “backyard” is an amazing opportunity. One that I cannot let pass by without my doing all I can to make it happen.
I hope you’ll join me in this effort.
